Ponds and Petals Garden Railroad Page
|
Welcome to the Ponds and Petals
Garden Railroad home page. The year 2000 saw the Rail Road really taking shape
as we ended up with 190ft of main line track running through the many flower
gardens and around some of the water ponds. Also got in about 100ft of sidings
and about 25 buildings were added. The weather stayed nice for much of the year until
fall then it seemed to rain every time I went out to set up the trains. When it started
snowing I thought no problem I'll just pick up a Aristo Craft snow plow car and
keep the tracks clean. Well the car does do a very good job with about 6in of snow
being all it really wants to handle but the problem is in trying to keep electrical
connection to the track while trying to run. Tried putting some wd-40 on my track cleaning
car and this took care of most of the problem with connection. Also buy leaving the engine
I'm running out in the garage this keeps the engine close to the same temperature as it
is outside so there isn't a problem with moisture buildup on the wheels. With the way the
flower beds are laid out this causes a lot of drifting of snow during the winter which can
affect winter time running. Then I have to get a dust pan out which I use cleaning the track
when I have to.
I started running on 400ft of main line on June 19, 2001 with another 300ft of passing
siding, spurs and a branch line. A friend that is coming over and both helping work on
the layout and running has set up a Big Hauler for Battery Power. Its a nice setup, running
Sierra sound and using a Aristo Train Engineer while running over six hours before it needs
a recharge.
Well the year 2002 has been another big year here. Another 100ft of spurs and an
addition to the branch line into my pole barn. It sure is a lot easier to put the trains
away now. The branch line was increased from 42ft to 69ft. Now I need to get the
rest of the track down in the barn to hold all the cars on. Have also added another
half dozen buildings and still need a lot more of them.
I set up 4 engines to run on either track power or battery power with the addition of my
battery car which also has the remote on board receiver in it. I'm using Nicads and the run
times are quite good.
I hope you enjoy are site and if you have trains you would like to bring
over and run or would just to come over and see are trains run you would be welcome.
Please call ahead or e-mail as are schedual does change when the trains are running.
The phone number is 810-686-2017. Suggestions on are site or are railroad layout are
always welcome as the more input in something the better it seems to turn out.
Thanks for stopping buy, Jerry
